We have made arrangements for overflow to be accommodated at a nearby Holiday Inn Express Hotel. United States Senator Dr. Tom Coburn (R-OK)The Rhode Island Republican Assembly is excited to have been chosen to host the summer Board of Directors meeting of the National Federation of Republican Assemblies, which will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick, Rhode Island, from July 21 to 23, 2006. We look forward to providing many opportunities for interested grassroots Republicans to interact with members of our national board and to learn more about how the state and local Republican Assemblies ® work within the framework of the Republican Party. Conference attendees will have the opportunity to hear from an impressive selection of speakers -- including United States Senator Dr. Tom Coburn (R-OK), United States Senate Candidate Stephen Laffey (R-RI), Rhode Island Right-to-Life Committee Executive Director Rita Parquette, and Susette Kelo (lead plaintiff in the landmark Kelo vs. City of New London Supreme Court eminent domain decision), and many other great speakers -- and of course, from plenty of federal, state, and local Republican candidates looking for your support during this important election season.

Click on "The Breakers" for more information about the optional Sunday Excursion to Newport!"On-Time" Registration Package pricing for the NFRA Board Meeting and Northeast Conservative Conference is only $150.00 (if postmarked no later than July 15, 2006 or if made online by July 18, 2006). This "all inclusive" registration package price includes admission to all meetings, conference speakers, and to all meals during the event. In addition to the Board Meeting and Conference, we are also offering a special opportunity to tour the world famous Gilded Age mansions ("pre-income tax summer cottages"), as well as to enjoy a waterside lunch in the Colonial-era downtown of our "City by the Sea," Newport, RI. Our Sunday Excursion to Newport will also include an interior and exterior tour of the most extravagant mansion of them all -- the Vanderbilt family's palatial 70-room The Breakers.  We encourage anyone who wishes to to extend their stay with us a little longer, to take advantage of our group rate. We invite you to explore and learn more about the "Greatest Little State in the Union" -- Rhode Island!        The Breakers (aka Cornelius Vanderbilt's "summer cottage")

Detailed information about hotel reservations, traveling to Rhode Island, as well as Board Meeting and Conference registration, may be found below. As more detailed information regarding the complete speaking program and agenda becomes available, it will be posted below. The members of the Rhode Island Republican Assembly cordially invite you to participate in what is sure to be a history-making "must attend" event for our national organization!

The Breakers is the grandest of Newport's summer "cottages" and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial preeminence in turn of the century America. Commodore Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877) established the family fortune in steamships and later in the New York Central Railroad, which was a pivotal development in the industrial growth of the nation during the late 19th century. The Commodore's grandson, Cornelius Vanderbilt II, became Chairman and President of the New York Central Railroad system in 1885, and purchased a wooden house called The Breakers in Newport during that same year. In 1893, he commissioned architect Richard Morris Hunt to design a villa to replace the earlier wood-framed house which was destroyed by fire the previous year. Hunt directed an international team of craftsmen and artisans to create a 70 room Italian Renaissance-style palazzo inspired by the 16th century palaces of Genoa and Turin. The Vanderbilt's had seven children. Their youngest daughter, Gladys, who married Count Laszlo Szechenyi of Hungary, inherited the house on her mother's death in 1934. An ardent supporter of The Preservation Society of Newport County, she opened The Breakers in 1948 to raise funds for the Society. In 1972, the Preservation Society purchased the house from her heirs. Today, the house is designated as a National Historic Landmark.
